Nigel Lucas

Professor Lucas is an independent consultant. He was a Director of Environmental Resources Management (ERM) UK until 1997 and Professor of Energy Policy at Imperial College in London. Before that he was Professor and Chairman of the Energy Division at the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok. He established and for three years was adviser to the ASEAN-EU Energy Centre in Jakarta. He has a long experience of science policy gained through 40 years work in the field and has frequently advised governments and international bodies, including the UK House of Lords, the World Energy Conference, the Royal College of Defence Studies, the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, UNESCO, UNESCAP, UNDP, the UK Government, the Physical Sciences Research Council, the Economic and Social Sciences Research Council, the IEA and the EU Commission and has taught at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne He has directed over 70 consultancy projects, worked in 50 countries, written seven books and over 100 papers in refereed journals. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 1994, the leading engineering association in the UK, limited to 1000 members.
Recently he has been rapporteur for a variety of EU expert groups and conferences including: the Interim Evaluation of the Fuel Cell & Hydrogen Joint Undertaking; EuroMed 2030 - Long term challenges for the Mediterranean area; European Forward Looking Activities - Insights for building the future of Innovation Union and ERA; External advice and societal engagement - Towards the 2016/17 work programme of Inclusive, Innovative and Reflective Societies of Horizon 2020.
